-i44's discord was opened to the public nearly a month before launch, with development occuring well before then. Two (probably unrelated) controversies had afflicted the general community in this timespan, these being the ousting of SarasT_T and a renewed bout of ToS wars.
-To the former, the original development and discord moderation team of i44 consisted of 4 alts, with a 5th being brought on once the discord went live. The host and owner of the server, an alt by the name of SarasT_T, soon earned the ire of a particularly vocal minority of the community, mostly centered around members of the Portugoa discord server. Frequent discord pvp, combined with the planned implementation of many features that this minority saw as "not /int/craft" (though this wasn't solely the fault of Saras), caused large amounts of <del>sperging and rioting</del>fiery but mostly peaceful protests to occur in the early days of the discord((Spamming the chat to death.)).
-This situation would reach a boiling point on a Wednesday night, 4 days after the discord opened, where after repeated requests to fake stepping down to avoid more controversy, Saras would briefly quit the janny team. This would cause three other members of the team, Janitor (AKA Fedward), INSPECTOR_OF_EUNUCHS, and Commander Chud Chudson (AKA jammy_nutrient) to strongly consider splitting off from Saras and hosting their server on their own. Ultimately, Fedward would convince Saras to return to host the iteration.

Believing ghoul to be an active detriment to the health of the iteration, jammy would organize more protests the next day, followed by a boycott from some of the more significant groups in the community at the time, ultimately resulting in the leaking of the identities of all alt accounts involved in development. This would cause Ghoul to step down, which was the purpose of the boycotting, and jammy to get excommunicated from the janny team. The server itself was not affected by all this drama, as Ghoul wasn't involved with much dev work, Fedward stepped up as the new iteration host, and jammy still completed the nodesmap.

Likely taking advantage of the lack of moderation after the departure of Ghoul and jammy, a group of users associated with Aechronis, a Crusalis knockoff server, orchestrated the mass reporting of many members of the discord. While these users were banned, alts or other members of the community seeking to stir drama have kept up the reporting, which has resulted in the tightening of rules on the discord and the creation of a private trusted channel there, much like the /int/craft lounge that was used to host i40 and i43.
