World War 1 (i34)
Not to be confused with 16.0 or 25.0.
World War 1, officially called The Great War and often referred to as i34, was an iteration hosted from 15 January to 6 February 2021 by Xeth, in his first attempt at hosting. It is notable for the “Scramble for Africa” event, as well as having no clear victor; despite intense warfare between the Great Powers raging for a cumulative 24 hours across three weekends, none of them lost their capital.
War was waged between many nations in different parts of the map, namely in Europe, North Africa, and East Asia, although the conflict in Europe remains the most memorable of the server's legacy. The server saw interesting developments compared to previous iterations: the playerbase was large enough to support a largely separate conflict in East Asia, independent from the European theater, in addition to a mercenary state that influenced the outcome of some wars. The server de facto ended by mutual exhaustion after the final war in 6 February, although the server continued to remain online until 12 February. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest iterations of all time.
It held the record for highest player count on /int/craft (251) for over two years, until finally beaten by Xeth's succeeding server, World War 2. It also holds the record, tied with World War 2, for being the longest-lasting modern iteration – 4 weeks, including five days of war.
