Modern American Civil War, known internally as Project 2025 and in-game as Civil War 2.0, was the fortieth iteration of /int/craft. The server launched on 4 January 2025, and its last war concluded on 25 January. It was hosted by sabasko with help from a secretive host cabal. The iteration was notable for its unique alt-history theme, the warzone mechanic, and bitterly fought large-scale conflicts accompanied by an exceptionally high memetic output.

The server geopolitics were primarily defined by the high-stakes showdown between the Fedwardist and the Strykerist coalitions led respectively by the Social Republic of America (SRA) and the Sinaloa Cartel, with the Southern Front between them the server's largest theatre of operations. Initially, the Fedwardist camp pursued their numerical advantage to launch a multi-nation assault against Sinaloa's Nogales, which pushed within the 2 chunks of the city's core, before Strykerist forces staged a major counteroffensive. In the north, the Fedwardist-aligned Jew York City defeated Pittsburgh-based AEMG.

The second war day brought no breakthroughs on the Southern Front, with the tide turning slightly in Sinaloa's favour. Elsewhere, the Strykerist-aligned NWO, bolstered by AEMG refugees, captured Canada before launching multiple defeated attempts at Walmarthr's Little Rock. Another major Fedwardist ally, Florida, captured two minor nations. The failure of the SRA-led coalition to effect a swift victory over the Sinaloa and the progressively grinding nature of the battlefield contributed to the deterioration of morale in the Fedwardist camp, resulting in several notable desertions.

As the last war day was hosted on an opt-in basis, the server finished without a strategic resolution. Both coalitions claimed victory, with the Strykerists basing their claim on the prevailing battlefield momentum in the south, and the Fedwardists demonstrating a more favourable live town cap ratio. Following the war, the server administration supported the Strykerist claim by facilitating a merger to enable a previously unannounced and controversial '270 nodes captured' challenge.

Development

Early development

The concept of a 'modern american civil war' iteration theme has been proposed by a handful of players for many years, at least as far back as 2018~. The concept for what became i40 was directly inspired by Falklands. It began around 2020-2021 as an autism hobby of his where he would use mspaint and victoria 2 maps to create fantasy scenarios of new warlords taking over land in a fallen America. Soon after i38 he wrote down ideas for a potential iteration featuring this theme including a gun list, a proposed map crop, and even roleplay and war rules. Upon witnessing the failure of GrimurRP firsthand, and having predicted its' collapse months in advance, Falklands fantasized about perhaps making a server of his own one day, but due to a complete lack of technical codetranny knowledge it was to remain a pipe dream.

One night soon after the conclusion of i39 a seemingly innocuous vc session in Portugoa occurred where several players spit-balled ideas for new iterations. sabasko, jammy_nutrient, SuperTerribad, Fili, and Voth all thought Falklands' idea sounded cool and work soon began under the code name “project 2025”.

New America map

The map for i40 was a custom crop of America made by Falklands and Superterribad. The nodes map was painted by Jammy_nutrient. Falklands hand painted all of the physical terrain, biomes, and block textures, and Terri painted the trees and provided Falklands with various guides which were vital to the map's creation. Falklands had three primary reasons for wanting to create an entirely new America map. The first reason: He is a vehement critic of stongduke's /int/craft maps and finds them to be visually ugly and bad for gameplay (which they are). The second reason: Despite its good quality, the custom America map used in i39 was gigantic in scale, which made it very annoying for players to travel anywhere without a direct port. The third reason: Literally no one knows how to make a good fucking world map elsewhere on the internet.

Work on the i40 map began around early august of 2024. With the blessings and advice of Viceroy and even ChienAndalou, progress was steady. The map was entirely hand-painted, only relying on the use of an ultra resolution heightmap as a guide for where to accurately place mountain ranges and rivers. Falklands procrastinated much during October and November 2024, but began to once again tirelessly work on the map during December thanks to encouragement from Terribad. Around mid to late december, Falklands had completed the terrain and texturing, and handed the project over to Terri who painted the trees, foliage, and roads on the map. The map was fully completed very soon before the server launched as a result of Falklands' procrastination :^( but in the end it came out fine.

The map featured several landmarks and easter eggs similar to stongduke's earth. The largest of which was the Interstate highway system. Many of these were built just before the launch of the server.
