Intcraft 42 released may 31st and lasted 1 week, ending on Sunday June 8th. It was made primarily by and solely jannied by ADM8. Due to being able to acquire the gun config and map of i39, the server was able to pick up where it left off. Players spawned on the old Earth map with their gear and were under assault by custom mob aliens. A mad dash was required in order to build a spaceship to escape Earth before its destruction. all old guns still worked, creating a unique combination of 1800s technology and futuristic, space age weaponry.
Once players escaped Earth, there were many celestial objects to choose from, such as the Moon, Mars, Venus, Europa, and a few other worlds. Players were spread out across planets, needing to make more rockets and build infrastructure to travel between worlds.
Similar to iA, the iteration used towny and block based cannons. Furthermore, the iteration was the first to feature movecraft vehicles as a method to let players build their own space ships. Other features were added such as mythicmobs based ground/air vehicles, custom npc enemies capable of using firearms, a Towny based port system, and a Towny based income system.
While many enjoyed the iteration, it is seen at best as controversial and at worst as a failure due to a variety of reasons. Many found themselves disinterested in the theme, as it was very different from the historical nature of most other /int/crafts, while not being the first server to do this (see iteration 27), it is still a very rare occurrence, making many people uninterested in the server. Many people were also burnt out on /int/craft or geopols in general, as a few months before hand iA happened as well as a Crusalis iteration. In fact, the server launched a few minutes after the last warday on said Crusalis iteration. This meant that on day one many people were logging off of a 3-4 hour Crusalis war to then play hours more of the new server.
A third reason of controversy was the combination of new and old features. Many players disliked Towny, and the server's reliance on it caused a few issues, such as people expanding their claims mid war or vehicles being protected. People were confused on how to get between worlds, and most settled on the same two worlds (mars and the moon), causing disinterest in players learning how ports or movecraft space ships work. The new vehicle and rocket system was also challenging for players, as many did not understand how to properly operate them and were displeased to find out that only certain weapons did damage to said vehicles. This was later changed but people generally disliked the vehicle combat, finding them too fast, tanky, and spammable.
Due to the above factors, the iteration peaked on the launch weekend but quickly died down, where by Tuesday the player count was usually 0-3 and peaking at 9 players. This was made up for by the war weekend having a peak of (funnily) 42 players, somewhat larger than iA's war weekend. War was also able to last for two days instead of one due to the janny making the decision to spawn resources equivalent to one week of grinding for everyone and enabling a second war on Sunday, peaking at slightly above 30 players. A second week was considered, but ultimately decided against due to the janitor having to leave for Japan and not having time to continue running the server.
