British
The British metagroup (named so after their first nation, Britain), also known as Jonathan's metagroup, Itsame's metagroup, or variations such as Jongang or Britgang, was a major metagroup founded by Jonathan and Itsame12 on their first iteration in i28 and lasted until its disbandment after i34. They had large nations on i28, i29, i30, i31, i32, and i34.
The most common arrangement for the group was with Itsame12 as in-game nation leader, but Jonathan as the de facto chief, directing grand strategy and diplomacy. Itsame was the sole leader in i31, Boyarsky led the group in i32, and Jonathan led for the last time in i34.
Origins
Despite being American, Jonathan chose to play as the British empire for his first /int/craft server, i28, because he was a massive Angloboo. When he selected the British role in the i28 Discord in early May 2019, there were about 5 other members who had already chosen it. Jonathan asked to be leader, and no one objected. Soon, the British naturally grew in number to 30 or 40 before the launch. A separate Discord was established, and Jonathan appointed the most active chat user, Itsame, to be his second-in-command.

On the actual Filicraft server, they established their capital on St. John's, on the island of Newfoundland. This location was chosen because of its defensibility, and because of its status as a colony in real life in 1870 (as opposed to part of the Canadian confederation). The second-largest town was in Halifax. Other towns were Montreal and Churchill, both in Canada, and Georgetown, in British Guyana.
The British had a proactive foreign policy and set themselves in opposition to the server's reigning champion and largest nation, Strykergang in Deseret. They were involved in the Battle of Columbus (in the anti-Columbian coalition) and the Battle of Cuba (on the side of the Cubans). They played a large role in the Battle of Alaska, during which they conquered Alaska together with Cascadia, and sent assistance to Chile in the Brazilian-Chilean War.

Filicraft 2 was quickly viewed as a disaster for the host uhFiliate, and of the few interested players, even fewer stuck around. The group, playing again as England (solidifying the “British” name) was one exception. Jonathan took advantage of the server situation to schedule a mid-week war with the rival Alaskan group, who were now playing the Ottomans. As a result of being the largest and most active nation, the group massively grew in size, gaining new players such as Colonel_TNTFire, Helias, and Onion Wizard, some of whom kept playing for subsequent iterations.
England merged with Scotland (some newfags), forming Great Britain with London as capital. They then merged with Ireland, led by Helias, forming the United Kingdom, and finally with Mingrelia (Georgia), led by Colonel_TNTFire. The war against the Ottomans was a complete domination, and Constantinople was conquered by the UK. In this way, the British became the “winners” of the iteration, although it was an iteration that few besides them cared about.
i30
On Yugo Wars, the group played as Croatia, again in opposition to their Filicraft rival Serbia, led by Stryker. On this server, they merged with the former Filicraft Chilean group led by Luepola, who played as the HVO on the town of Mostar. The main Croatian towns were Zagreb (led by Itsame) and Split (led by Jonathan). An attempt to ally with the Italians (former partner of the British as Cuba on Filicraft) failed and so Croatia allied with Serbia and a coalition of others to invade Macedonia.
After the fall of Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria backstabbed Croatia and attacked Zagreb. In one of the group's greatest victories, the attack was repulsed by the Croatian defense.1) In the second weekend, Croatia was one of the main participants of the dud invasion of Italy.
i31
On Middle East, the group chose to play as Egypt. Jonathan split off to play as Iraq with Myron_N_Gaines and some others, however remained in the Egyptian leadership channels and the two nations shared a foreign policy. Egypt constructed a large Pyramid base in Cairo, and launched it to space with Yakubian rocket technology.2) The iteration was also the first appearance of officer Rurik's subgroup of Civcraft players, who played as an Egyptian client state PLO.
Unfortunately, the fighting went poorly for Egypt, as they failed to conquer Israel in the Six-Hour War and became demoralized afterwards. Some members took part in the Battle of Sudan in the second weekend.
i32
Originally, the group wanted to play as Great Britain again on i32, but both Jonathan and Itsame were doomered about leading. Leadership was taken over by one of the group's officers, Boyarsky, on the condition that they switch to playing Russia.
Under Boyarsky's reign, Russia rose to huge success. They became one of the largest nations through the diplomatic annexation of neighboring Estonia (led by TrenchByte) and Finland (led by Rurik), who were both originally under Sweden, and a small newfag town in Ukraine. Russia developed their capital city in Petrograd/Sankt-Petersburg, and a second town of Kiev was led by bronies Dam_Son and PoshTiara. In war, Russia allied with Crimea and conquered Prussia and Poland, becoming the foremost power of eastern Europe.
In the second war weekend, many Russian players joined Ireland. The Irish Wars (against England, Netherlands, and Maine) were also fought to great success.
i33
The group passed on playing i32.5, despite Boyarsky being a janitor on it and contributing to its development. This was to conserve effort for the upcoming big iteration i34.

The British returned to Britain in their final iteration, World War 1, with Jonathan again as leader and a surge of new recruitment. London, the capital, was formed by the core of the group. Melbourne, the second-largest town, was led by Rurik. Delhi was occupied by an outside group from Filicraft. The strategic ports of Gibraltar and Suez were led by Luey (possibly the second-most important man in the Empire) and Monsieur_Joyeux, respectively. Other towns were Aden, Singapore, and Wellington. Judea (Jerusalem) was originally an independent newfag group, but they also joined the British nation. The British nation was the largest on the server, and grew to become possibly the largest ever on any /int/craft, peaking at over 130 players, although some of these were alts.
In the Scramble for Africa, the British suffered embarrassing losses to TheSpookyBone's Serbia group. They reformed their military strength and eventually ruled over all the disputed zone by the Africa contest's end. However, the diplomatic situation was poor, as their only ally was the malignant Norse, who were the target of a server-wide coalition. A British-Serbian truce failed to be reached. The situation was saved when Germany switched sides and allied Norse Kalmar and the British, possibly saving the Empire from imminent destruction.
Over three war days, the British defeated the Byzantines and their allies in Africa, in Gibraltar (multiple times), in Spain, in England, in Syria, in Turkey, and in Iran. The war ended with the British massively up on territory and holding hegemony over the Middle East. Having achieved all their objectives and not willing to risk more, they signed a truce with Serbia and with France for the final week. On the second war day, British also fought a colonial scuffle with the Dutch over Singapore, which ended in a minor Dutch victory. On the final war day, many Brits volunteered to join Germany, and some went to Kalmar.
i34 was the zenith of the British group's strength and success, though with much contribution from non-core members (like VivianJames and Onions) and lieged subgroups (like Delhi, Aden, and Judea) who never really had a chance to assimilate. The British Commonwealth ended the server with the highest number of territories of any nation, by far.
Dissolution
After i34, all the core members except Rurik felt done with /int/craft. The group was officially disbanded in a Discord announcement, although remnants and subgroups went on to play on successive servers.
Last vestiges
On Epochcraft 2, the small nation of Illyria was led by Jonathan, and Itsame was also a member.
On i36, the nation of Portugal was led by ex-British officer Luey, and many former members played as well, including Jonathan, Itsame, and LordRustyFord.
Legacy
When the group began, they consisted of a random assortment of members, few of whom previously knew each other or played /int/craft before. Despite this, they would go on to stick together and become a metagroup. They were one of the few successful metagroups in /int/craft history to be formed this way, especially in modern times, and Britain on i28 was possibly the last major, successful nation that was formed by neither a preexisting group or by veteran players who already knew each other.
Despite the actual group's disbandment and fading into history, many of its members became some of the most influential members of /int/craft since i28, and even some of the most influential members in all its history. Xethyr, who was a core member from i28 to i31, developed the Nodes plugin and hosted the hugely-successful World War 1 and World War 2 iterations. Razzmus was an admin of i35, and Rurik was the host of i36. Boyarsky was a janny of i33 (Epochcraft 1) and Epochcrafts 2 and 3. Luey was a janny on i37. Jonathan himself was a long-time assistant to hosts Onions and Xeth, jannying on i28, i30, i31, i32, i34, and i38, as well as being one of the chief writers on the blog.
A YouTube video called “Tribute to Britgroup” was made by Luey after i34.
Trivia
Despite being called “British”, very few of its members have actually been British. The group was led by two Americans and a Russian, and its officers were American, Australian, and Irish.
