Portugal, also known as Portugoa and later renamed to Quinto Império after integrating Iberia, was a major nation in World War 2. What began as a small buildfag town in Lisboa with Falklands and numried as its only expected members, soon grew into one of the most influential nations on the server, and Lisboa as one of the server's most beautiful cities.

Pre-Server

With Strykergang officially retiring before the release of the server, Falklands/Goa was without a metagroup for the first time since 2017. Desiring to build something low-key in a warmer climate, he chose to create Portugal. Falklands naturally invited Numried since he was Portuguese. Originally, Portugal was just going to be primarily the two of them buildfagging and memeraiding, offering mercenary services during war. To their surprise, Portugal would quickly outgrow that plan, and would attract small, diverse core of high quality players such as uhFiliate, Jonathan, and memebigboy_.

Architecture

Lisboa

The city of Lisboa suffered from a rocky start at first. Falklands defiantly refused to plan anything in advance in order for the city to maintain an authentic character, disliking the stale 'grid cities' so common in the community. Except for a renovated Praça do Comércio and an improved schematic of numrieds' 34.0 Torre de Belém, almost every building in the city was freehand. Despite the hindrance to the econonmy, few factories were built to keep the city looking nice. Much of the city was rearranged multiple times with world edit as plans for its development changed. EurekaEsperi's Cathedral, the towns largest single structure, was moved no less than 10 times from its original location towering over the coast of Leiria.

Colonial possessions

Portugal's colonies, particularly those on the coast of Africa and Macau, also saw development as the Portuguese colonizers tirelessly civilized the area in a noble and selfless effort to improve living conditions for the indigenous African doctors, lawyers, and engineers that inhabited the jungle.

The largest colonies became towns of their own under Lisboa. Port Cabo led by Game_tutorial, Luanda led by Donrekt, Macau led by Cosmic_BDN167 (later annexed by Lisboa), and Tiznit led by EurekaEsperi. A football field was built in Colonial Mozambique by Jonathan, but went largely unused.

The majority of the Empire was accessible via port. Portugal owned the most ports on the server, many of which were rp copypaste schematics.

Iberian Infrastructure Project

Very late into the server Falklands tirelessly laboured to create a road network across all of Iberia including a bridge over Gibraltar. Although it was functionally a complete waste of time because he was the only remaining active player, Falklands enjoyed adding what little bit of soul he could to his new lands.

Legacy

By the end of the server, Lisboa was one of the four Tier 3 cities, and considered by many as the server's best town.

Diplomacy and Politics

Although a blocky ripoff of a real Portuguese propaganda map of appropriate period, still one of the highest quality images to come out of iteration 38. Made by Jonathan.

The Portuguese were masters of diplomacy. They developed a global network of close alliances to compensate for its low population, with the aim of minimizing potential invaders. Those who refused to be allies were often subject to 'numried diplomacy', where target nations would be mercilessly (yet successfully) memeraided until friendly. Portugal also established multiple trade deals -particularly with Brasil- to supplement their lack of industrial output.

Portugal was a core member of the Grand Alliance and forged close ties with the Italosphere and other great powers. Goa often boasted about Lisboa not needing walls because of their diplomatic effectiveness. After the final war, Lisboa hosted the international map painting autism conference, where the final borders of the server were decided.

Military

Portugal was militarily successful. While numerically small, its army was comprised of /int/crafts most feared PvPers and commanders. By the end of the server, the records for most Kills overall and most nodes claimed were held by Numried and Jonathan respectively, and many other members ranked among the highest in overall stats such as war K:D and raw Kills.

On the first war weekend, Portugal aided Phamtomist Spain in the Spanish Civil War, and assisted the Grand Alliance's conquest of Japan in defence of China. China later repayed Portugal for their assistance by establishing a seafront PF Chang's in Lisboa as was agreed upon prior to the war.

On the second war weekend, The Portuguese participated in the Battle of France, taking a large piece of territory around the Loire valley, backclaimed much of French Africa, and aided their Finnish allies in Russia. The next day was spent destroying the surprise French insurgency in Africa1) together with Brasil. Due to numried's bloodlust for war, Portugal concluded the second war weekend with a surprise cb-less invasion of Nazi Germany, conquering copenhagen and several other coastal nodes which later became landing bases for future operations.

On the third and final war weekend of the server, Portugal resumed its conquest of Nazi Germany. While numerically superior, the German army was no match for the Portuguese veterans, and the country was conquered with ease, progressing as fast as it took the claim flags to finish.

Portugal ended the server as one of the largest empires and owned territory on every continent.
